WestJet has made the following announcement:
In accordance with the Government of Canada mandate, the WestJet Group has updated its Safety Above All program to include obligatory employee vaccination and mandatory traveler immunization.
The WestJet Group will comply with the federal government’s mandated vaccination policy for aviation travelers beginning October 30, 2021, and will operate as a fully vaccinated airline, managing minor accommodations in accordance with human rights law.
Mandatory vaccination policy for travelers
The federal government’s required vaccination policy for tourists will take effect on or after October 30, 2021, marking a significant change in the Canadian travel experience.
In order to fly with The WestJet Group during Phase I, customers must be prepared to produce proof of vaccination or proof of a valid PCR test to demonstrate the requirements for travel between October 30 and November 29, 2021.
The only proof of immunization for guests 12 years or older will be accepted for travel on the WestJet Group in Phase II, for travel on or after November 30, 2021, with a few exceptions.
The WestJet Group mandatory employee vaccination policy
With the introduction of the company’s mandated staff vaccination policy, WestJet and Swoop will transition to fully vaccinated airlines on October 30, 2021, as previously announced.
Any WestJet Group employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and complete vaccination status is a condition of employment for all prospective WestJet Group employees, with accommodations regulated in accordance with human rights law.
Employees who do not obtain full immunization status by October 30, 2021, will be placed on unpaid leave and may lose their jobs.
International travel vaccination passport
The WestJet Group applauds the development of a standardized and digital proof of vaccination that will allow Canadians to securely and quickly demonstrate their vaccination status in order to travel abroad and is looking forward to learning more about timelines, nationwide availability, and global acceptance.
