As part of the carriers’ expanding collaboration, WestJet will begin using the WS code on flights operated by KLM.

The expanded deal with KLM includes 18 locations in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and the United Kingdom. The agreement will go into effect on August 6.

The announcement comes as the Canadian airline prepares to operate its first route between Calgary International (YYC) and Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) on August 5.

Flights will be onboard Boeing 787-9 aircraft, initially twice a week before increasing to three times a week beginning Sept. 9. The timetable is in effect until November 1.

WestJet CCO John Weatherill stated, “Through this expanded codeshare arrangement with KLM, our visitors will benefit from new opportunities to travel between Europe and Canada.”

“Our Dreamliner service to Amsterdam, along with simple connections on a world-class partner like KLM, is an exciting step forward in our efforts to encourage the safe resumption of international travel.”

“Rebuilding these targeted international flight links is important to the province’s economic recovery,” said David Goldstein, CEO of Travel Alberta.

“We look forward to collaborating with WestJet to re-establish Alberta’s competitiveness as a business and leisure destination in the aftermath of the epidemic.”

WestJet will join KLM as the second operator of YYC-AMS flights once it begins operations. The route is currently served six times per week by the Dutch carrier, which uses Airbus A330-300s.
