More operational chaos for the Lufthansa Group may be on the horizon after a week of disruptions brought on by a ground crew strike that resulted in the cancellation of over 1,000 flights on July 27 that affected over 130,000 passengers throughout Europe.

According to a survey conducted on Sunday among all pilots affiliated with Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) Union, a resounding majority of members support taking industrial action to secure “a modern and fair, internationally competitive remuneration structure,” according to Marcel Groels, the VC’s negotiator, in an email to BNN Bloomberg.

Although walkouts are not currently scheduled, they may begin as early as next week while Lufthansa and all other European airlines battle labor shortages at the continent’s busiest airports and holiday travel is in full swing with strong passenger demand following two years of low demand due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
