The maiden test flight of China’s COMAC C919 aircraft, which will be delivered to China Eastern Airlines (CIAH) (CEA), has taken place.
The C919, registered as B-001J, took off from Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) on May 14, 2022, and landed three hours later.
According to COMAC, pilots and engineers executed all essential checks during the test flight and stated that the aircraft was in good condition.
COMAC also stated that preparations for the first C919 delivery are “moving along smoothly.” The exact delivery date, however, was not stated.
The first C919 will be delivered to China Eastern Airlines (CIAH) as a launch customer (CEA). The Shanghai-based carrier inked a purchase agreement with COMAC for five C919 jets in March 2021.
COMAC’s deputy general manager Wu Yongliang claimed that COMAC C919 aircraft deliveries will begin in 2022 in an interview with state-controlled media source The Paper in January 2022. COMAC had previously planned to achieve C919 local certification in 2021.
