Including 40% cumulative raises over the course of a prospective four-year agreement, American Airlines CEO Robert Isom stated that the company is ready to match the pay rates and profit-sharing formula that Delta Air Lines has outlined in its new pilot contract.

Delta approved a four-year deal on March 1, 2023, which will provide its pilots salaries of 34%. Several quality-of-life enhancements were also incorporated within the deal, raising the bar for other airlines and unions.

In February 2023, Delta employees also received $563 million in profit sharing, following the airline’s strong 2022 financial results and full-year profit.

Isom stated that American pilots would receive average salary rises of 21% in the first year of their contracts, matching Delta’s accord. In the fourth year of the contract, there would be a 40% overall salary rise.

“Let me be clear, American is prepared to match Delta’s pay rates and provide American’s pilots with the same profit-sharing formula as Delta’s pilots,” Isom said in the message to pilots, sent on March 9, 2023, and seen by CNBC.
