The 78th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and World Air Transport Summit will be held in Doha at Qatar Airways’ honorable invitation.
The IATA AGM for 2022 will be held in Doha from June 19 to 21, gathering the top figures in the aviation sector to discuss the evolving political, economic, and technological realities that face air transport as it recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Akbar Al Baker, the CEO of Qatar Airways, stated: “Since we last held the event in 2014, Qatar Airways is happy to host the International Air Transport Association Annual General Meeting and World Air Transport Summit.
We are ardent supporters of IATA, and this year’s AGM is a great chance for us to highlight the significant infrastructure improvements we have made in Qatar in advance of the World Cup as well as our well-known hospitality.
“Given that the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 will be the first in the Middle East and Arab world, this is the perfect opportunity not only for Qatar, but also for the region as a whole to show the rest of the world how we can host mega-events, and welcome visitors and football fans from around the world.”

Aviation leaders from around the world gather for the 78th IATA AGM amid a recovery from COVID-19 that is in full swing. Attendees will review progress on gender diversity and the industry’s determination to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
And with high oil prices, war, and inflation the gathering will be an opportunity for airlines to take stock of the economic challenges ahead of them. The agenda will be full.”
240 IATA member airlines, more than 750 senior aviation industry delegates, and more than 150 representatives of the international media will attend the three-day conference to address new business concerns and global trends that will influence the airline sector.
Sustainability will be one of the main themes of discussion at the event, with an emphasis on the efforts that the aviation sector will take collectively to attain net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
In order to provide long-term and environmentally sound solutions, it will also cover what the industry can do to support international efforts to reduce “Single-Use Plastics,” address the reputational challenges of carbon offsets and promote the production of sustainable and low-carbon aviation fuels.
Even at the height of the pandemic, Qatar Airways remained steadfast in its commitment to set an example for environmental sustainability. With its zero-tolerance approach to the illegal trade in wildlife and its products, Qatar Airways worked to solidify the path to a sustainable recovery and contributed to the preservation of biodiversity throughout the world.
As the first global airline alliance to unite behind a shared goal to achieve carbon neutrality, Qatar Airways has pledged to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 along with Oneworld member airlines.
As part of its ongoing efforts to improve its environmental performance and achieve the highest level of accreditation in the IATA Environmental Assessment Programme, Qatar Airways has also partnered with IATA to launch a voluntary carbon offset program for passengers. This program has since been expanded to include its cargo and corporate clients (IEnvA).
