SWISS A320 diverts to Zurich after smoke reported in cockpit

An Airbus A320 operated by Swiss International Airlines (SWISS) made an emergency landing in Zurich, Switzerland after the flight crew noticed smoke and an unidentified odor during the flight.

The event happened on January 6, 2023, while flight LX-2086 was being operated by the SWISS Airbus A320-200 passenger aircraft with the registration HB-IJM.

The plane was scheduled to land at Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) in Portugal a few hours after taking off from Zurich Airport (ZRH), according to the flight history recorded on Flightradar24.com.

But while the jet was flying out of ZHR airport, the pilots noticed smoke in the cabin and cockpit and decided to stop climbing at 10,000 feet.

Flight data shows that the aircraft made a U-turn and returned to its original airport in Zurich about 20 minutes after takeoff.
