Delta Air Lines has declared that their flight schedule for summer 2022 will be’strategically be reduced.’
Delta said the flight cuts will “create extra resilience in our system and increase operational reliability for our customers and workers” when it announced them on May 26, 2022.
The airline cited weather and air traffic control, vendor staffing, and an increase in COVID cases as reasons for the scheduled flight reduction.
While the airline has not provided a list of individual flights that would be canceled, it has stated that services will be curtailed by approximately 100 daily departures from July 1 to August 7, 2022, “mainly in areas in the United States and Latin America that Delta routinely serves.”
“More than any time in our history, the various factors currently impacting our operation – weather and air traffic control, vendor staffing, increased COVID case rates contributing to higher-than-planned unscheduled absences in some workgroups,” Delta chief customer experience officer Allison Ausband said in the airline’s statement.
“We deeply appreciate the energy and efforts of our people and the confidence of our customers as we adapt and pivot to ensure we provide the airline-of-choice experience we’re so proud to be known for.”
Delta stated that it will make every effort to notify customers affected by schedule adjustments as soon as possible.
