On the evening of November 19, 2021, a Southwest Airlines employee was discovered deceased in the employee parking lot of El Paso International Airport (ELP).

El Paso police responded to complaints that evening and dispatched a unit to the employee parking lot. According to initial reports, the incident was an aggravated robbery in which the anonymous worker was fatally shot.

The police department, on the other hand, issued a post on social media claiming that the incident was not the consequence of robbery and that no shooting occurred.

Though the manner of death cannot be revealed at this time, authorities said that preliminary investigations indicate that the victim and those involved were acquainted. The cops feel this was not a random incident as well.

A Southwest Airlines (LUV) representative gave the following statement:

“It is with heavy hearts that we confirm a Southwest Ground Operations Employee passed away after being attacked in a parking lot at the El Paso International Airport on Friday night while leaving work. This is a heartbreaking, tragic loss for the Southwest Team, and we extend deepest sympathies to our colleague’s family, loved ones, and their extended Southwest Family.

Southwest Leadership is focused on supporting our Employees while we offer our full support to the active investigation being conducted by local law enforcement.”

El Paso International Airport also issued a post on social media, confirming that no planes had been canceled and that the airport was still open.

There have been no arrests yet, and the inquiry is still underway.
