Nearly the weekend, Southwest Airlines canceled over 1,800 flights, leaving travelers stranded. Air traffic control concerns, severe weather, and staffing shortages were all blamed by the airline.
On Sunday, 27 percent of its fleet was grounded.
SWAPA, which represents Southwest pilots, issued the following statement:
SWAPA is aware that Southwest Airlines is experiencing operational challenges due to a variety of reasons, but we can confidently state that our Pilots are not participating in any official or unofficial job actions.
Our Pilots will continue to overcome SWA management’s poor planning as well as any external operational hurdles to remain the world’s most productive Pilots. They will remain focused on their top goal – safety. SWAPA pilots are true professionals who will always uphold the greatest degree of accountability to their crews, passengers, and our airline.
