For the first time since the Boeing 737Max experienced a deadly accident when flight 302 crashed in March 2019, Ethiopian Airlines has resumed its Boeing 737Max deliveries.
The brand-new aircraft, registered as ETAWJ, departed Boeing’s plant in Seattle on June 30 and had a stopover in Manchester, United Kingdom, before continuing on to Addis Abeba, Ethiopia. It was delivered on July 2 to its ultimate location early this month.
Currently, the airline’s fleet consists of five Boeing 737Max aircraft. Following the airline’s choice to resume using this particular aircraft type for scheduled fly operations, this delivery was made.
25 additional Boeing 737 MAX8 aircraft are on order by Ethiopian Airlines. Later this year, more deliveries are anticipated, according to the airline.
“Its active fleet includes four aircraft configured with 16 seats in Business class and 144 in Economy class.
They returned to service in February 2022 after recertification by the FAA, EASA in Europe, Transport Canada, CAAC, ECAA, and other regulatory bodies, but also after said aircraft was returned to service by more than 34 airlines worldwide,” said former CEO Tewolde GebreMariam.
“We took enough time to monitor the design change work as well as the rigorous 20-month recertification process.”
