Following a pandemic-induced hiatus of more than two years, Australian flag airline Qantas has reopened cabin crew recruitment at its London hub.
Qantas only resumed international flights last month, but as 2022 approaches, the airline hopes to expand its long-haul schedule.
Cabin crews based in London work on some of Qantas’ longest flights, including a direct journey from London to Australia.
Currently, the route runs to Darwin in the Northern Territory, but once border restrictions are eased, it will return to Perth, Western Australia.
Crew members from London were previously trained to work on Qantas’ Boeing 787 Dreamliners and Airbus A380 superjumbos. Once such services are restored, flight attendants from the United Kingdom will operate flights to and from Singapore.
Prospective cabin crew must meet the following minimal standards, according to Qantas, who describes the position as one of “great responsibility.”
- At least 18-years old
- Height between 163cm-183cm
- Current First Aid ceritificate
- In good health and able to swim 50 metres fully clothed and unaided
- The legal right to live and work in the UK
People with past airline industry expertise or who are now employed in a customer-facing service capacity are preferred by Qantas.
In addition, candidates must demonstrate that they possess a variety of desirable talents, including:
- Commitment and confidence in delivering exceptional customer service
- Flexible and dependable
- Friendly, caring, and empathetic
- An aptitude for technology
Obviously, a lot has changed since Qantas employed London-based personnel the last time, and the epidemic has wreaked havoc on the industry.
Qantas has decided to require COVID-19 immunization for all passengers and plans to do so for overseas flight attendants as well.
The airline is still looking into how it can do this legally, but this is something that candidates should be aware of.
To apply for this employment, go to the official Qantas recruitment website and fill out an application. The complete job posting can be seen here.
Candidates who have been shortlisted will be invited to attend an Assessment Day in London.
