A police chase on an active runway with a follow-me car may sound like something out of a movie. However, on December 1, 2021, a possibly dangerous occurrence occurred at Frankfurt Airport (FRA), Germany’s main airport.
The event occurred near an operational runway at FRA, and an inbound plane was compelled to take precautions to avoid the fugitive, according to airport authorities.
On December 1, 2021, shortly after 0900 local time, an occurrence happened. Following slipping unnoticed onto the apron after the bus transfer from the airplane to the terminal building, the 31-year-old Moroccan national landed on a flight from Dubai.
However, the individual was noticed by a police patrol and raced towards the runway. Following a short chase, airport police deployed a follow-me car to apprehend the suspect.
During the incident, German air traffic controllers shut down the impacted runways for take-offs and landings between 0907 and 0918 local time.
“An aircraft on approach was forced to perform a go-around in order to prevent collision with the fugitive,” Frankfurt Airport police said in a statement.
The individual was deported to the United Arab Emirates, where he currently resides. According to police, the photographer told them he wanted to see his wife in the Netherlands but couldn’t because he didn’t have a visa, which led to his failed effort to enter the nation illegally.
The suspect is being investigated by the police for jeopardizing the safety of aviation traffic as well as unauthorized entry.
Around 20 passengers absconded from a plane at Palma de Mallorca airport in Spain less than a month ago, with illegal immigration suspected.
