On May 1, 2023, Norwegian reopened its base at Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN).

The COVID-19 epidemic and the carrier’s financial troubles from back then compelled a reorganization of its operations and the closure of its Barcelona base. The city did continue to host one of the airline’s administrative offices and a few of its primary routes to and from the Scandinavian region.

With two Boeing 737-800s and 65 crew members stationed there from May to October, this Barcelona base will remain seasonal for the time being.

Eight locations are served by the network from Barcelona, including Oslo, Bergen, and Stavanger in Norway; Copenhagen and Aalborg in Denmark; Stockholm and Goteborg in Sweden; and Helsinki in Finland.

The base volumes are still much below those of Norwegian’s pre-pandemic high, when the airline operated a total of five Boeing 737s and four B787s out of the Catalan city to a wide variety of destinations around Europe and North America. Despite being a sign of Norwegian’s recovery, these base volumes are still far below those of that peak.

Norwegian has additional bases at Alicante (ALC) and Malaga (AGP) in Spain.
