A fire warning indicated that there was a problem with one of the engines, forcing an aircraft in Nepal carrying 78 passengers to make an emergency landing.
On March 9, 2023, a Shree Airline flight was en route from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu to Bhairahawa when the warning was raised. The crew decided to head back to Tribhuvan right away.
The Dash 8 Q400 aircraft was the one involved, according to The Himalayan Times.
Before 10 am, the plane touched down in Kathmandu, where an airport representative reported that no fire had been discovered.
“The pilot reported an indication of fire in the right engine and the plane was diverted to Kathmandu immediately,” a spokesperson for Shree Airlines told Reuters.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has ordered Shree Airlines to ground all of the fleet until the engines have undergone security inspections.
The incident comes after a plane crash on January 15, 2023, in the tourist town of Pokhra, Nepal, which left 71 people dead and one person missing.
One of the pilots reportedly stated that the engine had no power before the disaster, according to a preliminary report.
