After more than two decades of service, Lufthansa Cargo has announced that its final remaining MD-11 freighter will be retired on Friday, October 15th.

The MD-11 freighter, designated D-ALCC, is also the final MD-11 to be registered in Europe. The final touchdown is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Frankfurt Airport.

On the fuselage of the 23-year-old tri-jet are the words “Goodbye” and “Thank you, MD-11.” During its service, this aircraft logged over 95,517 flight hours.

At the end of last month, Lufthansa Cargo received two Boeing 777 Freighters. These two 777Fs will be based at Frankfurt Airport, with the registrations D-ALFJ and D-ALFK.

After receiving these two 777s, Lufthansa Cargo has completed its wide-body aircraft fleet expansion program, bringing the total number of Boeing 777Fs in its fleet to eleven.
