On March 17, 2023, a LOT Polish Airlines Embraer E175 and an Enter Air Boeing 737 were probably involved in a near miss at Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW).
At 7:48 AM local time (UTC +1), the Embraer E175 of the LOT Polish Airline, registered as SP-LIB, began to taxi out to the runway to carry out flight LO481 from WAW to Oslo Gardermoen Airport (OSL). At 7:55 AM local time (UTC +1), it started to turn onto runway 15, and shortly after that, it started its takeoff roll.
In the meantime, the SP-ESC-registered Enter Air Boeing 737-800 was flying route ENT51UA from Basel Mulhouse-Freiburg EuroAirport (BSL) to WAW.
According to information from flightradar24.com, it touched down on runway 11 at 7:55 AM local time (UTC +1).
Runway 11/29 and Runway 15/33 cross one other at one point. After turning onto taxiways N2, E2, and finally, to its allotted gate, the Enter Air narrow-body aircraft kept rolling along runway 11.
However, the LOT Polish Airlines Embraer E175 was in the takeoff roll as the 737 rolled on the runway. According to data from flightradar24.com, the aircraft’s ground speed peaked at 63 kilometers per hour (39.1 miles per hour), then it quickly dropped half of that speed.
The E175 turned onto the closest taxiway, O1, at 7:58 AM local time (UTC +1), and then re-approached runway 15 from the same location. At 8:05 AM local time (UTC +1), the LOT Polish Airlines plane successfully took off. It landed at OSL an hour and 40 minutes later.
According to a social media post by a passenger who was onboard the LOT Polish Airlines’ flight LO481 to the Norwegian capital, the pilots “slammed on the brakes, even the aircraft slid”.
According to data from RadarBox.com, the LOT Polish Airlines Embraer E175 reached its maximum ground speed at 07:54:22 AM local time (UTC +1), while the Enter Air Boeing 737 reached an altitude of 25 feet at 07:54:46 AM local time (UTC +1).
The ground speed of the E175 was 6 knots (11.1 km/h, 6.9 mph) at 7:55 AM local time (UTC +1).
