Onboard an Airbus A320 operated by the South American airline LATAM, terrifying video of a strong electrical storm that extensively damaged the aircraft’s radome and broke the cockpit windows has emerged.
On Wednesday afternoon at around 4 p.m., LATAM flight LA1325 departed Santiago de Chile heading Asuncion but was forced to make a U-turn due to stormy weather and land at Foz do Iguaçu International Airport in Brazil.
The 10-year-old aircraft landed without one of its two operating engines, according to Chile’s General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics, and an investigation has been launched.
LATAM Airlines Paraguay, which operated the flight, stated in a statement that after the aircraft made an emergency landing, all passengers and crew were unharmed.
