According to a letter to staff from the CEO of the Korean flag airline, Walter Cho, Korean Air has entered the last phase of finalizing the acquisition of its nearby competitor Asiana Airlines. The transaction is anticipated to finish in 2023.
Cho stated that the company expects to begin the merged airline in 2024 after completing the takeover process in 2023, as well as route expansion and lowering aircraft maintenance costs, in a New Year’s greeting to Korean Air employees seen by Seoul-based news agency Yonhap News.
“We need to analyze what destinations customers prefer after the pandemic when they resume travel, and what in-flight services they want as a wave of reopenings will further spur a surge in demand for plane travel,” the CEO was cited as saying.
