A UPS United Parcel Service Boeing 767-300, registration N323UP, was executing flight 5X-413 from Bogota (Colombia) to Miami, FL (USA) when the left-hand engine (CF6) released bangs, streaks of flames, and puffs of smoke during the initial climb out of Bogota’s runway 31L.

The crew completed the climb to a safe height, leveled out at 14000 feet, shut down the engine, and returned to Bogota for a safe landing on runway 13L about 35 minutes after departure, vacated the runway, and stopped clear of the runway for an emergency services check.

About 11 hours after landing, the plane is still on the ground.
