A Kenya Airways Boeing 787-8, registration 5Y-KZE, operating flight KQ-118 from Nairobi (Kenya) to Amsterdam (Netherlands), was en route at FL400 over Germany when contact was lost.
Two Eurofighters were dispatched to intercept the aircraft, causing “wake up” calls from Landshut to Frankfurt/Main via supersonic booms.
Following the intercept, communication was restored, and the Dreamliner continued on to Amsterdam, where it landed safely about 30 minutes later.
Germany’s DFS reported that connection with a Kenyan aircraft had been lost, prompting the Bundeswehr to dispatch two Eurofighters.
