At 16:41L (13:41Z), an Egypt Air Boeing 737-800, registration SU-GEE, was landing on Madinah’s runway with 154 passengers and 6 crew on flight MS-2677 from Cairo (Egypt) to Madinah (Saudi Arabia) when both nose tyres burst, causing tyre debris to damage the fuselage, engines, and wings.
The plane stopped on the runway and was disabled.
Damage to the underbelly of the left engine (CFM56) was also discovered during the post-flight inspection, indicating a possible pod strike.
For nearly 3 hours, the runway and airport had to be closed.
