INCIDENT: Brussels Airbus 330 engine shut down in flight

A Brussels Airlines Airbus A330-300, registration OO-SFG, was en route at FL370 about 140nm south-southwest of Shannon (Ireland) with 164 passengers and 10 crew on flight SN-501 from Brussels (Belgium) to New York JFK, NY (USA) with 164 passengers and 10 crew when the crew reported an engine (Trent 772) was shut down and they wanted to divert to Shannon. The plane descended to FL230.

The crew told their dispatch that they needed to divert to Dublin and changed their destination to Dublin while en route to Shannon.

About 70 minutes after leaving FL370, the plane entered a hold to burn off fuel and landed safely on Dublin’s runway 28L.

About 8 hours after landing, the plane is still on the ground in Dublin.

According to the airline, one of the engines lost power and had to be shut down by the crew.
