The Azul E195-E2 was damaged after a tail strike while landing at Caxias do Sul Airport in Brazil.
Azul Embraer E-195 (reg. PR-PJN) sustained significant damage during a tailstrike landing on runway 33 in fair weather at Caxias Do Sul Airport in Brazil.
Flight #AD2860 from Viracopos landed safely, and no one was hurt. The return flight had to be canceled.
A tailstrike or tail strike occurs in aviation when an aircraft’s tail or empennage impacts the ground during landing when the pilot raises the nose too quickly during final approach, sometimes in an attempt to land too close to the runway threshold.
A minor tailstrike may not be harmful in and of itself, but the aircraft may be weakened and must be extensively investigated and repaired if a more catastrophic disaster is to be avoided later in its working life.
