Emirates has announced that starting August 1, 2022, its new premium economy class would be accessible on select flights.
The airline announced the new service on May 9, 2022, at the Arabian Travel Market, noting that premium economy tickets will be available beginning June 1, 2022.
From August, the service will be available on Airbus A380 itineraries from Dubai to London, Paris, and Sydney, with Christchurch following in December 2022.
“Since we first introduced our Premium Economy seats in January 2021, the positive response and demand has been tremendous,” Tim Clark, President Emirates Airline, said in a press release.
According to Clark, the airline currently has only six A380 aircraft equipped with premium economy, limiting the first deployment. In November 2022, Emirates will begin a retrofit program to add Premium Economy on 67 A380s and 53 Boeing 777s.
“At the end of the program, Emirates will have 126 aircraft fitted out with Premium Economy cabins, as well as our latest interiors across other cabins. It is a major investment to ensure our customers continue to have the best experience in the sky,” Clark commented. The airline had initially said it would install the cabins on 105 aircraft.
Premium economy customers will have their own check-in facility at Dubai International Airport, according to Emirates (DXB). The seats have 13.3-inch screens and can recline 8 inches with a pitch of up to 40 inches.
The premium economy section of the A380 is located at the front of the main deck, with 56 seats configured in a 2-4-2 layout. Between Business and Economy on the Emirates Boeing 777, up to 24 Premium Economy seats will be installed.
