With the beginning of a new daily flight between Dubai and Montreal on July 5, Emirates is increasing its presence in Canada.

Just a few weeks prior, Canada and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) agreed to an enhanced air services agreement that would give airlines from both nations more access to one another’s aviation markets.

The air services agreement had previously restricted the UAE to just 14 flights each week to Canada, distributed among airlines.

The deal worked the same for Canadian airlines, but on a realistic level, it benefited Canadian airlines more than it harmed them.

In accordance with the most recent agreement, the maximum number of flights per week has been increased to 21, and Emirates has already declared it would expand its service to Toronto, which was previously limited to just five times per week.

There have been numerous rumors regarding Emirates’ potential locations for growth in Canada, and on Monday, the airline officially announced Montreal as its choice.

“Emirates is excited to launch our second gateway into Canada as we expand our reach in the country with direct services from our hub in Dubai,” commented Adnan Kazim, the airline’s chief commercial officer.

“We would like to thank the UAE and Canadian authorities for the enhanced agreements which have made this new destination possible. With our expanded reach into the country, we look forward to facilitating new trade lanes, which will bring a host of benefits to Canadian businesses and exporters,” Kazim continued.

While Toronto will continue to be served by the Airbus A380, Emirates will fly its Boeing 777-300 on the new route.

The airline says flight timings have been set up to facilitate easy onward connections from Dubai to popular vacation spots like Thailand.

The airline has been keen to highlight the additional cargo capacity that this route will bring between the UAE and Canada in addition to passenger traffic.
