Early in 2023, Lynx Air, a ULCC company located in Calgary (YYC), will operate four flights to the US as part of its international expansion.
The airline, which only uses Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, began operating in April 2022 and has since expanded its domestic network to include Edmonton (YEG). Beginning on January 23, 2023, Lynx will offer a 4X-weekly service between Toronto Pearson (YYZ) and Orlando, breaking into the transborder market (MCO).
The airline will then begin operating three US routes from its YYC hub in February, with service to Phoenix as the first destination (PHX). The YYC-PHX route will start operating three times per week on February 7.
Three times weekly flights between Calgary and Los Angeles (LAX) will begin on February 16 with the carrier. The LCC will launch a 4X-weekly service between YYC and Las Vegas on February 24. (LAS).
“Lynx’s expansion to the US is a strong indication of their confidence in YYC and that the future of air travel is bright,” YYC CFO Rob Palmer said in a statement. “Their new routes provide Calgarians even more choice to visit desirable destinations south of the border.”
According to Lynx, Canadians looking to escape the bitter winter weather will choose the US routes.
ULCC Flair Air, located in Edmonton, which began operating US flights in October 2021, announced that it would boost frequency on key Canadian domestic routes in its summer 2023 timetable. Service between Vancouver (YVR) and YYZ will increase from 10 to 21 times per week. The frequency of flights between Calgary and YYZ will increase from 10 to 21 times per week. Service between Montreal (YUL) and YYZ will increase from 4 to 12 times each week.
“We’re looking ahead to another busy summer next year and we’ve increased our capacity significantly to keep up with increased demand,” Flair CCO Garth Lund said in a statement.
