The strange case of the Cognac crates. American Airlines (A1G) (AAL) is being sued by Bacardi USA for hundreds of lost bottles of Cognac.
420 cases went missing following a flight between Paris and Los Angeles on September 20, 2021, according to court filings filed on April 19, 2022, and published by US media.
According to court documents, 24 pallets containing 1,680 cases of Cognac were loaded onto the plane, but some went missing at the opposite end.
“While in the possession, custody, and control of [American Airlines (A1G) (AAL)], six pallets and three cases were lost or stolen,” states the lawsuit, according to media reports.
As a result, the beverages firm is demanding $65,820 from American Airlines (A1G) (AAL) to cover the cost of the liquor.
It’s unclear whether the French brandy was stolen or misplaced, but according to Bacardi, the American is responsible for the bill.
