Avianca (AVHOQ), Columbia’s flag airline, plans to considerably expand its fleet during the next decade.
The airline stated on March 9, 2022 that it has struck an agreement with Airbus for the acquisition of 88 A320neo family jets, which are slated to be delivered by 2031, as well as a 50-plane purchase option.
The new planes will progressively be added to Avianca’s (AVHOQ) fleet, with the first deliveries expected in 2025.
Avianca’s (AVHOQ) new A320neo jets will be equipped with a new cabin arrangement and offer travelers seating options in Premium, Plus, and Economy class, which is estimated to decrease the company’s fuel expenses by 20%.
“This is great news for our company, our people, and our customers, considering that the A320neo family is the most advanced single-aisle fleet in terms of efficiency, reliability, and comfort. This order highlights that we continue to make the required investments to grow our network in line with our business plan,” Rohit Philip, Avianca’s (AVHOQ) chief financial officer said in a company statement.
Avianca (AVHOQ) now operates a mixed fleet of 98 aircraft, the bulk of which are Airbus A320-200 jets, according to Planespotters.com data.
This latest order is in line with the airline’s aims to increase capacity and extend its fleet to over 130 aircraft by 2025.
