Airlink and Emirates have agreed to expand their existing partnership into a unilateral codeshare agreement covering Airlink’s network of over 40 domestic and regional destinations in 12 African countries.
According to Airlink, the extended codeshare provides connection to both airlines’ passengers that no other carrier in Africa offers, and it complements Emirates’ long-standing partnership with South African Airways.
The announcement comes as Emirates restarts flights to South Africa and expands its operations to provide customers with improved connectivity through its gateways in Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban. When connecting between both airlines, the new codeshare between Emirates and Airlink will provide reduced pricing, combined ticketing, and seamless baggage transfers.
Emirates customers flying to South Africa can now connect from Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban to domestic destinations such as Bloemfontein, George, Upington, Nelspruit, Hoedspruit, Kimberley, Skukuza, Pietermaritzburg, Richards Bay, Sishen, Mthatha, and Port Elizabeth, as well as Southern African destinations such as Gaborone, Kasane, Vilanculos, Lubumbashi, Dar es Salaam, Enteb
“This exciting development is an overwhelming endorsement for Airlink,” said Rodger Foster, CEO and Managing Director of Airlink. Emirates Airline has chosen Airlink as its Southern Africa partner, and we are happy, honored, and privileged. Emirates serves all of our source markets, and together we are able to provide vital air access throughout Airlink’s extensive network of destinations inside Southern Africa, as well as much-needed connectivity, linking Africa with the rest of the world and the rest of the world with Africa.
The tourist and air transportation industries have been struck the hardest by the pandemic and the associated lockdowns and travel bans, and as the world becomes vaccinated, we expect pent-up travel demand to be realized, and more consumers will wish to visit the exceptional destinations that Airlink serves.”
“The expansion of the Emirates – Airlink cooperation marks an important step forward in our relationship,” said Adnan Kazim, Chief Commercial Officer of Emirates Airline. Our new codeshare agreement expands our service offering and flexibility for customers traveling beyond our gateways in South and Southern Africa, providing them with unmatched leisure destination possibilities. We are committed to expanding our operations in South Africa, and we hope that the strong connection opportunities given by Airlink will help accelerate the recovery of the local travel and tourism industry.”
“Our codeshare collaboration with Airlink complements Emirates’ valuable connection with South African Airways, which we greatly anticipate renewing once the airline is operating again,” Kazim added.
