According to preliminary numbers issued on January 27, 2022 by AirAsia Group, air travel demand increased in the fourth quarter of 2021.
According to AirAsia Group, the airline’s quarterly load factor and capacity hit 80 percent and 3.4 million, respectively, for the first time since the COVID-19 epidemic began.
In Q4 2021, AirAsia Philippines, AirAsia Indonesia, and AirAsia Malaysia transported a combined total of 2.7 million passengers, up from 1.3 million in the same quarter of 2020.
Meanwhile, because to strong demand in the fourth quarter of 2021, AirAsia Thailand operated more domestic capacity than in the previous quarter. During the fourth quarter of 2021, AirAsia Thailand carried a total of 1.1 million passengers.
Travel restrictions in East and Southeast Asia are gradually being eased, which contributed to the strong quarterly performance.
However, compared to 2020, full-year operating data for 2021 revealed a 64 percent decline in passenger numbers. The airline group carried a total of 4.8 million passengers in 2021, a significant decrease from the 13.3 million passengers carried in 2020.
