Aeroitalia, a new Italian airline, has signed a lease arrangement for the third plane that will eventually join its fleet.

Aeroitalia stated on May 6, 2022 that it had signed a letter of intent with Air Lease Corporation for a Boeing 737-800.

The aircraft will be equipped with winglets, 189 economy seats, and CFM56 engines for Aeroitalia. It will be the company’s third aircraft. The airline’s CEO anticipates that all three planes will be operational by summer 2022.

“I am very pleased to announce that today on behalf of the Aeroitalia Board of Directors I signed a letter of intent for our third Boeing 737-800 with Air Lease Corporation, which I’m glad of starting this new business relation with,” Gaetano Intrieri, Aeroitalia’s Chief Executive Officer is cited in the company’s statement.

“Our goal is to have all of our 3 airplanes operating by this summer. I’d like to thank on behalf of Aeroitalia all the team that participated in the negotiation and that will work on the phase-in in the coming weeks“.

The now-defunct German airline Air Berlin (AB1) and, later, the Belarusian flag carrier Belavia used the 19-year-old aircraft. Planespotters.net data suggests that it has been stored since December 2021, after being returned from lease.
